Mobipocket Creator Publisher Edition is an obsolete, discontinued software application used in the 2000s to compile and package digital files into the MOBI (.mobi) e-book format. Originally developed by the French company Mobipocket SA, the program was targeted at professional book creators who intended to sell e-books commercially. After Amazon acquired Mobipocket in 2005, the tool served as an early gateway for formatting Kindle e-books until Amazon permanently shut down Mobipocket’s website and servers on October 31, 2016.
Today, the software is completely outdated and no longer used by modern digital publishers. In fact, effective March 18, 2025, Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) completely stopped accepting MOBI files for reflowable and fixed-layout e-books, replacing them entirely with the modern industry standard, EPUB.
